One Final Stand for Equestria

Description

Oh no! A dragon has been set free because Spike took some diamonds from his cave and ran away! Now the dragon is so enraged that all the ponies had no choice but to evacuate to Manehattan! Unfortunately, only a few made it. So, Twilight, Celestia and Cadence had no choice but to transfer all their powers to Luna to fight the fiery beast, because she fights best at night! I decided to give her a light saber, so as to see how the lighting on her will turn out! ^^

Now Luna looks potent and all glimmering, because of all the powers she had gained.

Anyway, just a simple story made up for a simple painting practice for fire and destructed environments. Time taken to complete is 10 days. The following below is a work in progress sample before this was completed, so you can see how much is progressed since then.

Seeing you doing this piece for couple of days on your stream, knowing the process of the drawing makes me easier to give you some suggestions, but before we drop into the point,i have to say:great job duskie, you improve alot through each work, keep on this pattern and you will soon became master of drawing in no time

As for vision,i rate it 4.5 out of 5
I like how ypu add a lot of light effects into this work, like i always like to do,using some fx to power up the whole piece,a few light touch and buff up the vision a lot,sad thing is it seems like the flame from the dragon doesnt have enogh of these light effect,if you can paste on some more lighting or even change the color, the massive impact of the fire can bring this work into a whole new level, also the fire is so huge that almost cover 10% of the image, its very important to make sure that you give enough work on it

As for originality,i rate it 4 out of 5
The thing i like about your work is,you always know what you want to bring out on your work,an outraged dragon,a damaged city,a brave pony with lighsaber to save the day,i can see that you try to tell a story with ypu art,and the story is clear and precised, the thing is,i wish you can put some more personal design in to the work, like the dragon, the dragon just seems a bit boring,it will be nice to add some unique design to it,like a unique shape of horn,a pair of damaged wings, giving more details to the story, make people wonder “what exactly happened here?”,leaving some space for imagination is very important for concept art, which i know is the thing that you are striving for

As for technique,i rate it 3.5 out of 5
The reason i give a lower rate,is also the major problem you should try to solve as your drawing level now (personal thought),for now your shading is fine enough, the problem is the texture of your painting have no difference,i think the barrier you need to cross right now is the texture of different surface, for this piece, the rock surface, grass, and the dragon's body is what need the most advanced, texture is hard to provide, but if can handle it well, even your work is only balck and white,it can still make people feel fascinating and powerful, make sure to give different texture to your work, its a very important stuff to make your paintings into a truly wonderful piece,if you need help with texture,i do have a lot of whether rock, wood or even sky and mountain tutorials, feel free to ask me if you ever need

At last for impact,i rate it 4 out of 5
Like i mentioned about originality, you know exactly what you want about your paintings, but to make your paintings even better,i suggest you try paint in “extreme perspective”,specially an intense moment like this work, try to put your sight point (like your camera) in a special position, for this piece, you can put your camera underneath luna,a bit beside her hoof, let the grass cover a little bit of your corner, doing this will make luna looks taller, and more majestic, also makes the dragon looks extremely large even it will actually be smaller, and the best part is doing so will make the painting looks moving, and some striping blur effect aroung the image to give movement to the whole piece, making the whole painting intense and alive,i know its a bit hard to understand, but if you get what im saying, your painting will become some artwork that only few artist could manage to do,cause this is not really something like a drawing technique, its the concept of perspective, hard to train, but i believe people like you with great perspective concept can get used to it in no time,if you have any question about it,feel free to ask me

Last suggestion about this piece, better have a greater comcept of the landscape, for now the edge that luna is standing is hardly connected with the pound beside, and the field in front of it is hard to ensure that its a cliff beside the village,or a plain field, you can try to paint things on a exist landscape, like paint luna ander the great canyon, pinkie pie jumping on the top of mt.Himalayas, having a better concept of different landscape, than try to design your own, also you can check out some landscape design from games like halo, they have a lot of unique and beautiful landscape design

Overall this is a really nice piece,i can see you put a lot of efforts into it,i hope you found this critique useful, and as always feel free to ask if you ever have question <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="=)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="390" title="=) (Smile)"/> keep on the great work duskie
